Designed Landscape

Walks

The boars head - logo of the BreadalbanesOver the centuries many people have had a hand in creating the designed landscape we now know as Taymouth. Much of it dates back to the Seventeen Century, while other parts were laid out for Queen Victoria during one of her visits. There are three key features to the landscape; trees, water and mountains.

North Terrace walkIn the summer months the grounds are open to the public . There are many designed walks throughout the grounds such as the Bearceau, Surprise, North and South Terraces and dotted amidst the greenery you will find follies such as Maxwell's Temple.

Hills and mountains

Ben Lawers from Loch TayThe Estate is bordered by the hills Drummond and Kenmore. These provide great shelter and it is often possible to see rain clouds passing by, but missing the estate. In the background you can see munros such as Ben Lawers and Shiehallion.

Lochs and rivers

Kenmore Bridge over the TayLoch Tay is one of the largest bodies of water in the UK while the River Tay flows through the estate and offers some dramatic vistas. The Adnavalloch burn crosses the course and provides interesting water features.

Trees and parkland

The new avenueAs you come down the main driveway you will pass six spanish chestnuts which were planted 600 years ago. The estate is proud to have over 1,000 champion trees some of which are the best specimens perhaps in Europe.

Kenmore Village

Kenmore VillageOnce the whole village and indeed much of Scotland belonged to the Breadalbanes. The village has maintained much of its original character and buildings.
